Sultan Kösen is a former Turkish farmer who holds the Guinness World Record for being the tallest living male at 251 centimetres. His growth is a result of a tumor which affected his petard gland. Due to his extraordinary height His stature is disorganized because of which he must use crutches to walk.

Birth Details: December 10, 1982 (age 33), Mardin, Turkey

Tallest Man In The World

Sultan Kösen at present is the tallest man alive on earth. Previously he used to be a farmer, but because of his extraordinary growth now that he has risen to fame, he travels round the World to promote various causes. Education for kids is amongst the main causes, since he himself never had the opportunity to finish his schooling. Sultan is survived by a total of 4 sibling’s three brothers and a sister, who are all of average human height. His parents are not tall either, so genetics is not what turned him to become the tallest person in the World.

Indeed, Guinness World Records (GWR) has a record of 10 confirmed cases of tallest man in the world in history of mankind reaching 8ft or more. Sultan first time became the world’s tallest living man in 2009, at that time his height was 246.5 cm (8 ft. 1 in). He snatched the title from Xi Shun of China, born in the year 1951, whose height measured 2.361 m (7 ft. 8.95 in) in 2005.

Tallest Man In The World

Sultan kosen is also a proud winner of the award for the largest human hands in the world, of a living person, which measures 28.5 cm (11.22 in) starting from the wrist to the tip of his middle finger. He was previously crowned for the largest feet of a living person, with his right foot measuring approx. 35.5 cm (1 ft. 1.98 in) and left foot measuring approx. 36.5 cm (1 ft. 2 in)

Sultan Kösen’s pituary gland was diagnosed with a tumor called pituitary gigantis. It’s basically a disastrous disease or disturbance at the center of the brain that produces growth hormone. Initially Growth hormone is released by the pituitary gland in the brain; if the gland is damaged by an external force e.g. a tumor, it can disturb its functioning which results in a release too much or too little hormone. The pituitary gland is present in the brain and is responsible for the release of the growth hormones. If something damages or disturbs the gland, it can cause an under or an overproduction of growth hormone. The impact of over production includes large hands, extreme thickening of the bones, and intolerable pain in the joints.

Sultan was a normal human he didn’t initiate his incredible growth spurt until he was 10 years old. But now he finally has stopped growing. Thanks to the Revolutionary gamma knife surgery exercised on the tumour which affected his pituitary gland, which was provided by the University of Virginia, USA, in August 2010, has finally succeeded in halting the functioning of growth hormone.

With three brothers and one sister Sultan is one of his five siblings. The rest of his family, which included his mother and father, were all normal and had a normal hum appearance. Because of his massive height he was unable to finish his schooling but worked occasionally as a farmer in order to support his family.

Everything has a positive as well as a negative side. Here in Sultan’s case both the aspects were there advantages of being the tallest as well as the disadvantages of being the tallest. According to him one of the advantages of being tall was being able to help his mother and father to easily change the broken light bulbs and hanging and pulling of the curtains without using anything extra to elevate them like a ladder. Even after having a serious disease, Sultan, is not at all negative about his height. In the spirit of being a giant, he sees more of advantages of being overly tall than concentrating on the disadvantages.

Another benefit of massive extraordinary height is that he gets to travel the round World and inspire people of all ages. He has become super famous everyone wants to see him for talk shows etc. The biggest disadvantages of having such a height is that he is not able to find clothes or shoes that fit him properly, not only fitting but  finding them is extremely difficult as his physique is not normal which can be called as the rarest of all. Also he cannot fit himself into a regular size car. Yet on the other hand he is as human as you or me – just like you or me “the tallest man in the world ever” also likes playing computer games, watching movies and listening to music.
